The Lantern Community Project is a small independent community centre established by the Presentation Sisters as a place of welcome to support individuals and groups to develop their skills and to promote community education and inclusion in Cork city.

Our vision is to be:

... a place of welcome where people, no matter what their background, race, age or gender, can feel at home and voice their hopes in working for a better world ...

Our Name-The Lantern

We draw our inspiration from Nano Nagle who was known as the Lady of the Lantern as she went about visiting families and setting up small schools in this area of Cork in the 18th century during the Penal Times. It may well be that Nano’s sister lived in 14 George’s Quay. Certainly Nano herself would have walked the quays outside. The Lantern represents hope and direction for people in their lives.
